Mulberry is a luxury British design company renowned world-wide for its ‘artisanal’ approach to leather goods and accessories. The backbone of the brand is an extensive line of highly crafted bags for men and women who combine stylish, stand-out design with the finest leathers and detailing.
The Mulberry brand was founded in 1971 by Roger Saul and his mother Joan, with £500 he had received as a 21st birthday present. In 1973 they opened a factory together in Somerset, England. Mulberry soon established itself as a British lifestyle brand; notably for its leather poacher bags. Mulberry's range now includes womenswear, menswear, and most recently, footwear for women.
Then as now, Mulberry employs local craftsmen and artisans to realise the company’s visions of marrying function with original and very sensual designs. Leathers such as the exotic Congo and fine British glove combine durability and a delightful feel to touch. Mulberry is most famous for two iconic and timeless bags designs; The Bayswater and The Roxanne, an extensive range of which is available at Boutique 1 stores.
Mulberry continues to make designer leather goods at its original Somerset factory, The Rookery. Following investment in 2000; Mulberry moved into a new and exciting chapter. Nicholas Knightly was appointed Design Director and the company plans to expand their factory further, increasing the number of bags produced in the UK.
Collaborations have included some of the most influential names in fashion; Jimmy Choo, Gina and Cacharel, as well as runway projects with Giles Deacon and Luella. It’s no wonder celebrities such as Kate Bosworth, Agyness Devn, Kate Moss and Claudia Schiffer continue to sport Mulberry’s luxurious, timeless leather items, season after season.
