  • Instantly recognisable, the Missoni zig zag has changed the face of knitwear for 60 years. Missoni describe their signature pattern as a fashion statement but also a collectable item; identified in all languages.

Each season the brand revives the zig zag in striking new colour ways. This spring, orange, black and purple prove to be the perfect combination. Mixed with a variety of sea and volcanic inspired graphics, Missoni launched into a tribute of the elements; earth, air, fire and water.

  • What is your schedule during a day in Fashion Week?

” I wake up around 5am, I have a light breakfast and a strong coffee to set me up for the long day ahead. I arrive at the venue and introduce myself to all the other models. We begin by having fittings and we are then given the outfits that we will be wearing. Hair and make-up commences shortly after and there are rehearsals in between. There tends to be parts of the day where I am waiting around for other models to have there hair and make-up done. I use this time to have a break and a snack before the commotion begins! People start arriving for the show and the buzz backstage becomes infectious, nothing beats the moment I am walking down the runway, blinded by the lights.“

What has been the highlight of your career so far?

”Fashion week is the biggest event of the fashion year and it is always a huge highlight of being a model. I love the excitement and buzz that surrounds Milan during the monumental week. From the castings right up until the moment I am walking down the runway, everything is a whirlwind of adrenaline. Everyone involved thrives off the atmosphere and it brings us all together like a tight family for a short space of time.”

  • Please describe a day working backstage during fashion week.

“Hectic! But I love it. On average there are 20 models who require hair and make-up. We are given a brief by the designer of the look they want to achieve and we apply that to all the models. Some of the hairstyles can be quite complicated so my team and I practice it a few times before the show day. Time is limited and the models are often taken during make up and hair to do rehearsals so we have to be as fast as we can. I always love to see the end result.”

Do you have any fashion week make up tips?

“A day during fashion week can be quite long and you may be rushing from show to show. Many of us don’t have time to reapply make-up several times a day so you will want to invest in a foundation that stays on all day for that flawless ‘just applied’ look. I would recommend using a water based foundation such as MACS face and body foundation that has real staying power.”

  • Get the model look and master the art of laid back off duty styling. Comfort is key, however being a pillar of fashion society, a model’s style is also high on the agenda.
