Founded by Frank Smythson in 1887, the brand is renowned for its innovative and unique range of leather travel, jewellery, business and beauty accessories, handbags, diaries and bespoke stationery, as well as its Nile Blue packaging. Smythson invented the portable diary in 1907 together with the thinnest gram opacity paper that can be written on in ink. The distinctive pale blue featherweight paper combined with gilt edging has become recognisable the world over.
